Opportunity Fair!

New Life has a Fair to Encourage People to Help in Under served Areas!

      <dc:subject></dc:subject>

This past Sunday we had a fair to celebrate the opportunities there are to serve within our congregation. After the baptism of our sister Ashley Key the congregation split into several small groups and went to different “booths” (rooms) and played a game or watched a skit and were encouraged to sign up to help with different areas the church needed help with. These things include opportunities to teach children’s classes on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, opportunities to mentor and be mentored by other people in the congregation, cleaning the building, picking up kids for Sunday morning church, and an “other” category encouraging people to volunteer other gifts and skills they have to contribute. This went really well, and many people volunteered to help in all of the areas. We are excited that we can come together to strengthen our community as we move boldly into the future.

Vision Team Selection

Nominations for Vision Team members are sought from church

      <dc:subject></dc:subject>

A few weeks ago, about twenty-five New Lifers met together for an important retreat to discuss the past, present and future of our church. One item of consensus was that we needed to form a leadership team that will guide the future of our church. A committee was chosen of retreat organizers and others to guide us in the selection process to be completed as soon as possible. This is important, and your input is important!

The New Life Vision Team will be a group of church members selected by the church to lead us into the future. The Team is not concerned with the day-to-day details of things, but works toward making the “big” decisions and setting the vision for New Life. In the near future, they will deal with issues such as Hope Church of Christ sharing our building and the transition of Damon out of full-time staff. This team will be in place by September 9, 2007. The vision team will be a permanent part of New Life, but individual replacements may be made if a team member resigns or moves away.

New Life members are asked to prayerfully consider who they will nominate as members of the Vision Team. Nominees should be New Life members who you trust and will follow.Nominations will be accepted until the end of church, Sunday, August 12, 2007. Nominations can be made anonymously but must include the nominee’s name and the reasons why you have chosen to nominate this person. Nominations may be submitted using the Nomination Box at New Life Church, in person to a Selection Committee member (who will record it on paper), or online using the NewLifeAbilene.com Contact Form (which also may be used anonymously). Immediately following the nomination period, the Selection Committee will report to the church the next steps in the process. This includes contacting potential vision team members. It may include further steps in selecting members or may result in a clear team selected. Either way, we will celebrate the new team in place no later than Sunday, September 9.

Selection Committee members are Brad Carter, Amy Lowe, Lauren Mitchell, Damon Parker, Emily Savage & Alex York.

CLICK ON “talk to us” ABOVE TO MAKE YOUR NOMINATION.

Weather Cancellations - January 14, 2007

Weather and road conditions, forecasts lead to cancellation of Sunday’s Birthday Worship

      <dc:subject></dc:subject>

On Friday we celebrated our Tenth Birthday with our Friends’ Dinner at the Abilene Civic Center. We had a great success, but missed some of you. Saturday morning we cancelled our Family Fun Day because of early morning travel concerns. Several dozen enjoyed goodies at our Open House Saturday evening.

A highlight to our celebration, of course, was our Birthday Worship Service for this morning, January 14, 2007. We believe it is in the best interest of our church family and out-of-town guests to significantly limit travel and have cancelled our services for today.

We will NOT meet at New Life today for morning or evening worship, adopt-a-block, fellowship time or meals.

The roads look only wet and in some places are not very slick, but many spots prove otherwise (and has resulted in slides and spins in the streets). The forecast calls for increased freezing weather today (80% current chance of precipitation) and for road conditions to worsen with temperatures remaining below freezing. The forecast does not look encouraging regarding the situation to improve.

It would be foolish for us to encourage your attendance at our birthday worship in these dangerous conditions that could worsen as we celebrate this milestone at New Life. For our out-of-town guests, we are glad you joined us this weekend for our other events and regret we are unable to worship together this morning.
